Opinion: “If you do not put that knife this instant in your pocket, I promise, upon my honour, you shall hang at the next assizes” (Stevenson 8). Dr. Livesey should have taken more drastic measures against the captain. To stop causing the inn goers fear, the doctor should have taken the captain prisoner, and sent him to jail. For later in the book when more pirates come; the townspeople kill them . The same action should be taken for the captain as the other pirates.
Opinion: “’And so Jim,’ said the doctor, ‘you have the thing that they were after, have you?’ ‘Here it is, sir,’ said I, and gave him the oilskin packet.’” Jim should not have given the packet to the doctor. Both the doctor and Jim know that the pirates were after a treasure that was more than their wildest dreams and the map was in the packet. Since the doctor has an education he could find the treasure and not give Jim any.
Discussion question: The Captain does not pay his fees, costs the inn owners a fortune, and is disruptive. Even though the Captain is scary, why do Jim and his family not kick him out? Do they actually enjoy his company?
"So von Linden sold my clothes back to me piece by piece." (Elizabeth Wein 10) We see the harsh conditions that she grew up in.
"Just about every flying club in the kingdom joined in, and so many thousands of people applied-free flight training!" (Elizabeth Wein 13) Shows that the war kinda helped some people achieve what they wanted to do in life.
Will Maddie continue her flying, or will something happen so she can't take lessons any more?
“You curiousity got the better of you, as curiosity is wont to do” (page 4) Everyone goes to see what the night circus is even though it could be dangerous and no one has ever been before.
“you would wager your own child?”(page 19) The two men want to play a game. Whoever can train someone the best wins and gets the person that the other person trained. One man is wagering his daughter.
Question: Why would Hector wager his own daughter?
“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” (Tolkien 3) "Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away, ere break of day, To find our long forgotten gold." (Tolkien 26)
Did the note that the dwarves leave influence Bilbo's decision to go with them?
"My mother's death was brave. I remember how calm she was, how determined. It isn't just brave that she died for me; it is brave that she did it without announcing it, without hesitation, and without appearing to consider another option." (Roth 451)
"I feel like someone breathed new air into my lungs. I am not Abnegation. I am not Dauntless. I am Divergent. And I can't be controlled." (Roth 442) What will happen to Four?
Quote #1. I find this quote inspiring, powerful and well written. I fell super strong and powerful when I read this quote.
Quote #2 This quote symbolizes Tris' understanding and embracing of who she is. I also think that the last sentience "And I can't be controlled" is pretty kick ass, which is something that I aspire to be.
"He had a vague feeling that he was wrong to keep heading as the plane was heading, a feeling that he might be going off in the wrong direction," (Paulsen 22) If Brian knew that the pilot jerked the plane to one side when he had his heart attack, why didn't he correct it even the slightest bit? It seems like he is to anxious to try and save himself that he is forgetting some basic things to actually do so. "Nothing broken. Just battered around a little bit." (Paulsen 33) If brian was in the right mind to remember things from his childhood, why is he so out-of-it and seems to be concussed?
Comment : i thought it was really interesting how they portrayed elphaba's character as having good morals and trying to do what is right. I think it realy ephasizes how there can be no pure good or evil in the world.
Comment: I thought it was interesting how the sections told from Elphaba's point of view were the darker ones, where she is less high-spirited like in the beginning.
"Sometimes I feel like I have walked into the middle of a movie. Maybe I can make my own movie. The film will be the story of my life. No, not my life, but of this experience. I'll call it what the lady who is the prosecutor called me. MONSTER." I really liked this quote because it was a great way for the author to incorporate the title into the book. Also, I feel that the book truly could be made into a movie which makes the quote even better. "We lie to ourselves here. Maybe we are here because we lie to ourselves." This quote I agree with because they are there for that exact reason. If they hadn't lied(cheated) they wouldn't have even been there in the first place. Why would he have done this if he feels so bad right now even though at the time he new it was the wrong thing to do?
