Chris McCandless had his mind set to going off into the woods and surviving on nothing. He said he didn twant to know where he was, what time it was, or what day it was. I think this is because that McCandless had emulated Tolstoy's asceticism, and moral rigor. I believe he also wanted to view life in a different manner, and he was ready to do it. No one, not even Gallien, or his own family could stop him. Nor would they know where he was going.
